چکیده

We consider rate-independent crystal plasticity with constrained elasticity, and state the variational formulation of the incremental problem. For generic boundary data, even the first time increment does not admit a smooth solution, and fine structures are formed. By using the tools of quasiconvexity, we obtain an explicit relaxation of the first incremental problem for the case of a single slip system. Our construction shows that laminates between two different deformation gradients are formed. Plastic deformation concentrates in one of them, the other is a purely elastic strain. For the concrete case of a simpleshear test we also obtain a completly explicit solution.

Towards effective simulation of effective elastoplastic evolution

This paper summarises the general strategy for time evolving finite elastoplasticity and outlines encountered computational challenges in form of numerical benchmarks. Each time-step of some natural implicit time-discretisation is eventually recast into a possibly non-convex minimisation problem. Finite plasticity seems to imply the lack of lower semicontinuity of the energy functional and so l...

A probabilistic crystal plasticity model for modeling grain shape effects based on slip geometry

A new statistical theory is introduced that takes into account the coupling between grain size, shape and crystallographic texture during deformation of polycrystalline microstructures. A “grain size orientation distribution function” (GSODF) is used to encode the probability density of finding a grain size D along a direction (given by unit vector n) in grains with orientation g. The GSODF is ...

Influence of hardening on the cyclic behavior of laminate microstructures in finite crystal plasticity

We investigate the cyclic behavior of laminate microstructures in finite-strain crystal plasticity and the resulting stress-strain response, based on a variational, incremental description of the microstructure evolution. The nonconvex free energy density in multiplicative singleand multi-slip plasticity gives rise to the formation of fine-scale deformation structures, experimentally observed a...

Modeling analysis of the influence of plasticity on high pressure deformation of hcp-Co

Previously measured in situ x-ray diffraction is used to assess the development of internal elastic strains within grains of a sample of polycrystalline cobalt plastically deformed up to a pressure of 42.6 GPa. An elastoplastic self-consistent polycrystal model is used to simulate the macroscopic flow curves and internal strain development within the sample. Input parameters are single-crystal ...

Maximizing the giant liquid slip on superhydrophobic microstructures by nanostructuring their sidewalls.

In an effort to maximize the liquid slip on superhydrophobic surfaces, we investigate the role of the nanoscale roughness on microscale structures by developing well-defined micro-nano hierarchical structures. The nonwetting stability and slip length on the dual-scale micro-nano structures are measured and compared with those on single-scale micro-smooth structures. A force balance between a li...
